International Yoga Day - Proposal in UN

International Yoga Day Proposal at UN

Yoga is old(6000+ years’) physical, mental and spiritual practice. Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on 27th September, 2014 placed a proposal of ‘International Yoga Day’  in  United Nations General Assembly. This proposal approved by 177 countries in Just 100 days and United Nations declared 21st June as ‘International Yoga Day’.  Very proud moment for all Indians because  Yoga is India’s  ancient  tradition  and it gets worldwide reorganization. It had the  “highest number of co-sponsors ever for any  UNGA  Resolution of such nature.”

The resolution also checked that a record number of  175 countries  co-sponsoring it.

Narendra Modi view about Yoga:

“Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help us deal with climate change. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day.” 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that “Yoga embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well being.”

International Yoga Day a Mega Event at Rajpath:

‘International Yoga Day’ Narendra Modi government planned mega event at Rajpath, New Delhi where Prime minister Shri Narendra Modi,  Cabinet ministers,  Bollywood celebrities  and nearly 40,000-50,000 people done Yoga at Rajpath.
